She starred in the Romanian film 4 luni 3 semaines si 2 zile (4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days) directed by Cristian Mungiu. It won the Palme d'Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and two other prizes (the Cinema Prize of the French National Education System and the FIPRESCI award). The film also featured her in Francis Ford Coppola film Youth Without Youth. She also played Yasim Awar in BBC's 5-episode The Last Enemy miniseries. Marinca appeared as Yasim Anwar in Oliver Hirschbiegel's Five Minutes of Heaven, as well as the Romanian film Boogie. Her next film was a big role in the 2014 film Fury in which she portrayed the role of a German woman who was named Irma aunt to Emma.
