A former leading fashion model who was 5'10'' tall, Carey was a favorite with top American designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. In 1979 in 1979, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists named her dad Scientist of the Year. Carey has traveled throughout the world because of his work. She started modeling part time when she was a student studying at university at the University of Colorado and caught the eye of a rep for the Ford model Agency in New York. She briefly spent time and studied in Paris before returning in New York. Her modeling and college career took off and she appeared on the covers of Glamour's and Vogue's and a variety of other magazines' covers. While modeling, she continued to study full-time for a literature major at New York University. Then she became interested in acting and started studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. She began her acting career with a small role in 'Club Paradise" in 1986, starring Robin Williams. Skiing, white water rafting and rock climbing are her favorite activities.
